Dan Luvisi, a digital concept artist working in the film, video game and comic book industry from Los Angeles, California, is our featured artist of the day. At the young age of 3, inspiration struck him in form of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and he hasn’t stopped drawing since. His talent received recognition while he was still in high school and he was hired by German Acony Games during these years, prompting him to decide against college and instead, immediately follow his obvious calling.

He is known for his extremely versatile style in both illustration approach, as well as categories. Besides concept illustrations, LuVisi has become an expert in character & costume design, matte paintings, storyboards, poster & packaging design and generally welcomes new challenges within his field. Future skills he intends to add to his roster, as time in his hectic schedule will allow for it, include 3D modeling with Z-Brush and Mud Box, Maya, as well as physical sculpture and canvas painting.

In the film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, he is the main antagonist. Thorin Oakenshield believed that Azog died when he cuts off Azog’s left forearm after he is not killed by Dáin in the Battle of Azanulbizar. He has survived and his missing forearm has been replaced by a clawed metal prosthetic which keeps him to hunt down his companions – dwarves, Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf - on their quest to retake Erebor.

Suren Manvelyan, a professional photographer based in Armenia, is our featured artist of the day. Born in 1976, Suren started to photograph when he was sixteen and became a professional photographer in 2006. On the other hand, aside from fighting, Gandalf’s speech to the Balrog is extremely hair-raising. “You cannot pass,” he said. The orcs stood still, and a dead silence fell. “I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass.”

Ben Heine, a Belgian multidisciplinary visual artist, is our featured artist of the day. Ben has a degree in Journalism (started at “Université Libre de Bruxelles” (Belgium) and completed at “IHECS” (Belgium) & “Utrecht University of Applied Sciences” in The Netherlands). He also briefly studied History of Art, Painting and Sculpture at “Hastings College of Arts & Technology” (England) but he is a self-taught person in Drawing and Photography.

“Pencil Vs Camera” mixes drawing and photography, imagination and reality. It’s a new visual concept invented and initiated by Ben Heine in 2010. It’s full of magic, illusion, poetry and surrealism. Ben published his first “Pencil Vs Camera” image in April 2010 but the series is the result of a long graphic exploration and a logic consequence of his personal artistic development. Ben usually integrates an inventive hand made drawing in front of a realistic background.

The story of Hobbits begin when Gandalf arranged a meeting between a band of 13 dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield and the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins when he foreseen the coming war with Sauron. Their quest is to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug the Dragon. It’s known as the “The Quest of Erebor” – a book written by Frodo Baggins though most of the text is consist of narration by Gandalf.

Gandalf is one of the members and the leader of the fellowship of the ring – a group formed in the secret Council of Elrond. Gandalf took leadership of the Fellowship, leading the group south after leaving Rivendell. During this whole journey, one of my favorite scenes is when Gandalf faces a Balrog of Morgoth – a demonic creature described as tall and menacing with the ability to shroud themselves in fire, darkness, and shadow.

Frodo was the ring-bearer, a title used for those who carried the One Ring, and the one who destroyed Sauron’s ring. The title was started to refer to him the same day when the fellowship was created. The fellowship was comprises of Frodo himself, his close friend Samwise Gamgee, his cousins Peregrin Took (Pippin) and Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry), the wizard Gandalf, Aragorn, the elf Legolas, dwarf Gimli and Boromir.

Though he do not know the way to the fiery mountain known as Mount Doom, the heart of the black land of Mordor, Frodo voluntarily decided to take the One ring including its burden to destroy it hoping it would bring peace to Middle-Earth. This attribute of Frodo made him stand in the eyes of all races not only for human but also for elves, dwarves and others. He is indeed endowed with a temperament well suited to resist evil.

Mike Friedrich, a 35 years young illustrator and artist from Berlin, Germany, is our featured artist of the day. Born and raised in this awesome city, he made his first steps in the commercial world of illustration and design in the 90’s by selling his dark fantasy illustrations to Berlin-based tattoo studios. Always interested in street art and wall paintings, he merged his fantasy roots with the elements of character design and urban art. The result – a sick, slimy mix with strong dark themes. Cuteness is over!

Mike started his career as a freelancer in 2000. Since then he has done a lot of illustration and design projects with different companies and labels (i.e. Nike, Nintendo, Levi’s®, Hummel, Bring me the Horizon, Celio, Be-Mag and so on). Mike has worked as Art Director for laFraise, A better tomorrow and Cyroline – fashion labels in Germany. Also, Mike has won several awards at international design contests. Since 2009 he works as Art Director for MyVideo and in his studio all the time on new funky art shizzle.
