The second instalment of the three-part epic fantasy adventure film adapted from the novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien entitled “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is the continuation of the first The Hobbit film subtitled An Unexpected Journey. The second part follows the story of Bilbo Baggins as he fulfill his task appointed by the company of dwarves to reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug.
Twelve months before they set out to their quest, the gray wizard Gandalf warned Thorin Oakenshield that someone is trying to have him killed. While they are at the Prancing Pony Inn in Bree, the wizard persuades Thorin to obtain the Arkenstone to unite the dwarves. And that to have the chance to steal the jewel back from Smaug, a stealthy burglar may be needed – this is where the role of Bilbo Baggins will enter.
While in pursuit with Azog and orcs, their journey led them to different places such as the home of Beorn (a skin-changer), to Mirkwood where they fought with foul creatures (spiders), then captured by Legolas and Tauriel – who brought them to the elvenking, Thranduil. The company are then smuggled into Esgaroth by a man called Bard and finally reachead the Lonely Mountain where Bilbo discovers the entrance.
