Giving a hand in the said event is the role of your back up photographer. You need a backup not only a photographer but also to your equipment such as camera lenses, tripods, sets of plenty memory card, extra heavy batteries, etc.

Give something different

Give something different
Try to give a touch of difference in taking photos of the sports event. Most of the photographers capture a photo in the eye level of the athlete but why not try to capture low that creates a heroic atmosphere or high that gives a nice clean background of an event? Taking shots in vary angles can help you to create stories in your photos. Through this you can allow your creativity and talent in photography be flourished to create something different that others doesn’t have. Look for more dynamic angles.

No flash

The flash photography are now became strictly prohibited in photography industry. It not only can ruin the images you manage to capture while the event is on-going but also it can give a distraction to the players and this will make their coach player crazy.

It can destroy the good flow of game of both teams. Use of flash especially when sports event happen during night time and the only source of light are the post may have a bouncing effect of light to the photo. The use of natural light will always be your priority whatever happens.

The surroundings

The surroundings
Consider the surroundings when taking photos of the event. It will not only add details to your photo but also it will give people a view of the said event. You can give them the atmosphere while the game is on-going and you can give them more elements to make the photo more interesting. Do not forget the surroundings of the event because it gives more spirit of the game even though the action itself doesn’t happen already.

It will be a great idea if you climb as high as you can to capture the whole stadium full of cheering fans before or during the game. But remember the clearer the background, the better image it will be. Lead the viewer’s eye into your subject and not what is the background by having smooth background of it.

Clear eagle vision

It is too difficult to capture a great motion of shots because it is needed to be as clear as the vision of the eagle. It should always be created in creative ways but not blur. Adjust into fast shutter speed for you to stop and take snap shots of the current motion. Well there are three types of motion photography — the stop, blur and pan.

Blur is making the subject blurred in slow shutter speed to give you the sequence of the motion. Pan gives you the appearance of the motion yet it gives a clear view of the subject. For example is the when the dog runs. The blur sequence of motion of the dog will appear yet the dog has a clear view. Lastly, stop makes the motion stop or freeze in action which needs a higher shutter speed.

You can’t also control the background that’s why it can affect also the photo. Most of the photographers used a wider lenses angle with a faster shutter speed that makes the background appear blurred to create shallow depth of field and creates a dramatic effect in the photo.

Reaction in action

Reaction in action
The photographer must react faster in capturing action in the event. He/she should have always the alertness of mind and body to react quickly. Most of the actions are done quickly and does not last longer that’s why a quick movements and gestures are needed here. Reaction in action can be found also to the crowd cheering the teams. The losing of points of one team can brings emotion to the crowd that makes them react in the certain situation.

Hello, long glasses

Long glasses are the key to take or capture perfect shots in sports photography. This will help or allow you to capture more clear shots from anywhere in the location of the event. They said the bigger and heavier lenses are the better one.

In choosing your lens for your camera, make sure that it is proven and tested by many people and time( that is why, line ups of lenses of Nikon did not change ).If you can afford to buy 300mm to 400mm lens , then it is better.

Continuous clear shot

Continuous clear shot
To create continuous clear shots in the movement of the players, set your camera into burst mode. This will be very helpful in a way that it will save you from manually pressing of button for every shot. Turn your camera for focus mode into Al mode which may help you in capturing continuous movements and in panning.

Avoid champing

Champing is the repeated looking of photographers to their shots after they capture it. Remember that photographers are allowed to take view of their shots after taking it to ensure the clearness of the photo. Yet in the field of sports photography, repeated champing are strictly prohibited unless you want to miss the action that can be happen while you are champing.

When you are champing, you are taking your eyes and attention to the sports that’s why there are chances of missed moments. There will always be a right time and place to review your taken photos, you just need to move on to the next play.

Predict the next move
