Leonidas I, a mighty fearless warrior, was a king of Sparta (one of the important Greek city-states in the Peloponnesus) whose identity becomes more popular in the modern age not as King Leonidas of Sparta but as King Leonidas of 300. It is an American film based on the 1998 comic series by Frank Miller that fictionally narrates the Battle of Thermopylae where King Leonidas is notable for his leadership.

King Leonidas played by Gerald Butler in the film, leads only 300 Spartans (whom he calls his personal guards) into battle against an army of more than one million soldiers lead by Xerxes, a Persian god-king. Arcadians join the Spartans while they’re on their way to Thermopylae. They build a wall in Thermopylae to contain the Persians. But, they found a secret path through the help of Ephialtes’s treachery.

Ephialtes betrays his king and the whole Sparta leading to death of King Leonidas and his army (300 Spartans).

The heroic act of King Leonidas spread across Greece which unites different city-states to fight the Persia. Dilios, a Spartan army, narrates this tale to the whole army of Sparta before they go on the battlefield against Persian army, a year after Thermopylae. This is the beginning of the Battle of Plataea, the final land battle during the second Persian invasion of Greece.
