John Carter, who has close-cropped black hair, steel-grey eyes and stands 6 feet 2 inches, is a fictional character who is also known as John Carter of Mars despite the fact that he is a Virginian from Earth and not from Mars. John Carter was the lead character in Barsoom novels created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Before the interplanetary adventure of John Carter, he was a captain fought in the American Civil war on the Confederate side.
After we he moved to the southwest US to work as a prospector, several unwanted events happened until such time Carter takes refuge in a cave then suddenly transported to the planet Mars by a form of astral projection. There, he encounters both formidable alien creatures like Tars Tarkas, Martians like Dejah Thoris (the princess of Helium) and various warring Martian races. After he was moved from Earth to Mars (Barsoom), he is now known as John Carter of Mars.
Burroughs began writing the Barsoom books in the second half of 1911. The Barsoom novel includes 11 tales such as “A Princess of Mars”, “The Gods of Mars”, “The Warlord of Mars”, “Thuvia, Maid of Mars”, “The Chessmen of Mars”, “The Master Mind of Mars”, “A Fighting Man of Mars”, “Swords of Mars”, “Synthetic Men of Mars”, “Llana of Gathol”, “John Carter of Mars: John Carter and the Giant of Mars” and “John Carter of Mars: Skeleton Men of Jupiter”.
Because of the beautiful story of John Carter of Mars, it inspires various science fiction writers in the 20th century.
