5 Reasons Not to Dump Facebook for Google+

Your Friends

Your Friends

The main reason you shouldn’t even consider leaving Facebook for Google+ is that your friends aren’t, either. The entire reason you use Facebook is to connect with others and share stuff with your friends. Since your friends aren’t on Google+ there’s no real reason for you to be, either. Even if Google+ is far superior to Facebook in so many ways, it’s entirely pointless if no one is there to read your posts and there are no posts for you to read by anyone else.

Your Mom

Your Mom

Is your mom on Facebook yet? Middle-aged moms are the fastest growing group of new Facebook users, and your mom might be one of them. You just can’t abandon your dear mother. She wants to share things with you, and she wants to see what you’re up to. It’s a great way for the two of you to bond. But Mom isn’t going to switch to Google+; she’s just now getting the hang of Facebook and doesn’t want another challenge. You have to stay on Facebook for her.

Timeline

Timeline

The truth is that Facebook looks a whole lot better than Google+ does. Google+ is fairly boring and too straightforward. Facebook has a much more interesting design and layout, and the new Timeline profiles are just awesome. Your profile and your friends’ profiles look so much better on Facebook. Timeline makes it easy to learn about someone through their posting activity, cover photos add personality and flair, and overall it’s a much more appealing to look at.

Business Pages

Business Pages

National and local businesses are all over Facebook. If a company matters, it has a Facebook page. It probably also puts a great deal of effort into maintaining the page and making it useful for you to “like” it. With business pages on Facebook, you can interact with the companies you enjoy, voice your opinion to influence them, and score awesome deals, coupons, and freebies. Google+ brand pages are just starting to roll out, and they’re nowhere near as beneficial to you as a consumer.

Privacy Improvements

Privacy Improvements

One of the most appealing things about Google+ is how easy it is to manage your privacy settings. Facebook has been notoriously difficult when it comes to adjusting the accessibility of your information and posts, and it’s not very easy to pick and choose who sees what. But Facebook has made some major improvements with privacy settings. It’s getting much easier to set controls and manage the availability of your content to the rest of the world, so there’s no reason to switch to Google+ now.
